Baby, I love you!

I am a ways behind on my fun crafting with baby projects!

After Tac's bday I had the girls and their boys over for Pumpkin carving!
I think this was before his birthday, actually. I remember my pumpkins reflected my anxiety! ha!

Then we made Thanksgiving Turkeys out of babies hands and feet:

We most recently made dough ornaments for our babies' second christmasss!
Here is the recipe: 1C flour, 1 C salt, 1/2 C water. Mix with a fork and cook on 200 for about 3 hrs!
Paint and enjoy! I also painted a layer of modge podge on top! Fun and Easy! Cookie cutters--Yes!

What not to do....
1. Do not attempt to make hat with materials listed while 12 mo old bday boy is being ohh so helpful!:
scissors
needle and thread
glue
tape
foam sheets (people do not use foam go for cardstock!) iused turquoise for hat and sparkly white for rabbit
pom poms
ribbon
felt sheets (2)
beer
Ok doooo trace out the shape for the cone hat on your cardstock--not foam--
Do NOT forget to include the tab and cut it off--like I did bc then you have to cut an extra strip and attempt to glue it inside the hat to merge the two sides at the seam of the hat. DUMB
Even better than gluing unwieldy paper or FOAM --damn it-- just sew it people. Sew the seam!

Now, work on your artwork for the hat while your cone shape is (not) gluing together and drying nicely.
Tac's party theme is Peter Rabbit so I sketched out peter, cut him out, and then cut out his little jacket from felt and glued it on. I needed some contrast so I cut out an oval shape and glued peter in his coat on the turquoise foam oval and another felt oval (Im working with just 2 colors).
Do NOT try gluing your oval shapes onto your hat that does not want to be shaped like a cone-
like I did.
Instead sew your art onto the hat. I know you think it will take more time blah, blah. You are wrong- I would know.

Ok, your art is on and it looks like this:

Now we are going to sew some pom poms on the top and around the base of the cone! Make sure you have enough of the ones you want to make it all the way around the base of the cone...before you start!

Tada!
So you know your sweet angel baby is going to rip this thing of his/her precious head as soon as you get it tied on...if you get it tied on so you better add something to tie it on with. Now, in my boon of optimism (beer--its on your materials list) I am imagining my collection of pictures from every birthday of my son's future wearing this hat as a tradition. Haa- keep scrolling on down....

I cut one piece of ribbon and sewed it on either side with an x stitch. I think snipped in the middle to separate the ribbon into two pieces after it was attached to the hat. Why? you ask? did I mention I want my son in this masterpiece every birthday at least until he is married? So you see now he can grow into it bc I can lengthen the ribbon pieces.- yeah right!!

finito!
Alas, I did not go into detail about my ribbon accent that makes an x in the back- you are free to do whatever additional embellishments you desire!

Now.......for the fitting (pre-bday practice)

Step one: eat a green smoothie to prepare your mind, body, and soul for what is about to take place.

Step two: get hat on head and tie ribbon
Attempt #2: go ahead and tie that ribbon before getting it on his head.

Nope! Attempt #3 try to distract child while holding him, hat, and camera.

No!? Attempt #3 everyone loves it?!?!?!
RIGHT?!

Good Job mom! I am so glad you worked so hard on this hat bc you were too cheap to buy one on Etsy! I can't wait to enjoy wearing it again on my birthday! love, Tac
But he looks cute right?!

This amazing shot is just a preview of our session with Deanna Green. Deanna is my cousin by marriage and boy am I proud to claim relation! Tac just held that bench and smiled and in about 10 minutes we were finished. He is pictured at Shelby Farms- that's the biggest urban park in the country and happens to be in Memphis, Tn.

This sweet shot was taken in our bedroom at Pooh's Corner. Tyler grew up going to this cottage in Harbor Springs, MI every summer and now Tyler jr. is following suit. (He's even in his daddy's old onesie monogrammed TAC) sweet
